Overview
This comprehensive, trauma-informed, culturally responsive 234-page guide supports education professionals working with newcomer and refugee youth in Canada. It is an extensive resource, however the second and third sections specifically focus on career development strategies to support these learners. Section 2 includes 30 lessons for educators and section 3 is intended for direct student use.
This resources addresses supports the need for competent and culturally responsive career development programs and services in Canadian schools, for youth. The guide incorporates the use of universal design principles, multiple intelligences, and differentiated instruction. These support all students, not only those who struggle to learn or whose background includes refugee and newcomer experiences.
(Note a supportive quote from Kathy Whynot, English as an Additional Language and Newcomer Children and Youth from the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development can be found on page 228 in the guide)
