Overview
Micro internships are one day, action focused, professional experiences for students. These short-term placements are supported by mentors (employees) and allow students to learn about career opportunities throughout New Brunswick. Students work closely with their mentor to learn one or more specific tasks and will be provided an opportunity to grow their professional network. These micro internships are open to all high school students in the province.
Objectives
- Provide students with real-world experiences and skill development opportunities while fostering meaningful connections.
- Support career development for students through short-term commitments.
- Help employers connect with diverse youth talent, gaining insights into their skills and abilities.
- Reduce recruitment costs for employers and serve as a potential screening for future employees.
Instructions
For employers:
- Prepare a Welcome: Plan a short introduction (e.g., open conversation, video, or marketing materials) to inform students about your company and what to expect during the day.
- Allow Employee Preparation: Ensure employees are ready to welcome and engage with the student.
- Onboard Students: Provide students with the necessary space, training, resources, and knowledge to succeed.
- Organize a Relevant Activity: Select or create an activity aligned with your company’s mission that gives students a hands-on experience.
- Reflection Period: Provide feedback to students at the end of the day and allow time for questions.
